Florence Kahres: active 53-year Massapequa Park resident

Longtime Massapequa Park resident and beloved matriarch Florence C. Kahres died January 26, 2007 at the Reading Hospital & Medical Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. She was 86 years old and had devoted her life to caring for her family.

Born in New York, New York to George and Minnie (Krenkle) Franciscus, she grew up in Springfield Gardens, New York.

From 1951 to 2004 she lived in Massapequa Park and was a devoted mother who was a Boy Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout leader for more than 20 years and was active in the Parent Teacher Association as well as the Little League.

Mrs. Kahres was a member of the Massapequa Preserve Society and loved hiking in the eastern U.S., swimming and golfing and was biking 10-miles several times a week well into her mid-80s.

Mrs. Kahres leaves behind her daughter, Jacqueline K. Taft of Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania; her grandchildren: William G. III of Shillington, Pennsylvania, Jennifer L. Aten of Zionsville, Pennsylvania, Michael J. of Fleetwood, Pennsylvania, Susan T. Taft of Miami, Florida and Daniel Taft of Miami, Florida; her great grandchildren: Samantha, Zander, Veronica Aten and Victoria Aten; as well as other loved ones and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, William G., her son, William G., Jr. and her sister, Helen Franciscus.

Services were private. The Klee Funeral Home in Shillington, Pennsylvania was in charge of the arrangements.
