Donald Lang: Massapequa S.D. Hall of Famer & Baseball Coach Longtime Massapequa teacher Donald E. Lang died suddenly January 22, 2007. He was 77 years old and worked for the school district for more than 36 years. In 2006 he was proudly inducted into the Massapequa School District Faculty Hall of Fame. For many years, Mr. Lang taught sixth grade at the Carmens Road Elementary School until it was turned into a middle school, then he worked at East Lake Elementary before his retirement around 1990. According to his wife, Mary, he was also the first baseball coach at Berner High School and had lived in Farmingdale for the last 43 years. Mr. Lang, who coached in several district schools, amassed more than 400 career victories and was named Nassau County Coach of the year in 1965, 1974, 1976 and 1977. Called "simply wonderful" by his wife, he was an accomplished bowler and was a member of the 300 bowl league who also loved to play golf and spend time with his family. Mr. Lang leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Mary; his children: Donna Simmons and her husband Neil of Syosset, Donald Jr. and his wife Meaghan of Wantagh, Deborah Greenblatt and her husband Howie of Massapequa and Diana Lang and her fiancee Jeff Kircher of Northport. His siblings: Babe Lang and Judy Walsh; his grandchildren: Danielle, Bridgette, Connie, Mia, Aidan, Maeve, Ellie, J.C., Thomas and Kimberly also survive him as do his many friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles. Mr. Lang reposed at The McCourt & Trudden Funeral Home, Farmingdale, on January 25 and 26, 2007. A Funeral Mass was held on January 27, 2006 at St. Killian's R.C. Church followed by interment in St. Charles Cemetery.
