L.I. youth lacrosse gets a shot in the arm

The Oyster Bay Lacrosse League (OBLL), Long Island's only competitive youth lacrosse league, announced today that it will launch its first season in March 2007. The OBLL is the first youth league to offer a highly competitive, structured environment for advanced young players who want to excel in the game of lacrosse.

The OBLL was established in response to the request for a more competitive youth lacrosse league on Long Island. The philosophy of the OBLL is that competition is the key to success and that winning and losing is an educational experience.

"Parents on Long Island have been asking for a league like this for a long time. We're providing a well-organized league where their children can compete at a higher level than other community leagues have offered in the past," says OBLL President John Pappas.

The league consists of players in grades three through eight, and teams and divisions will be determined by age. Games for grades five and above will be assigned three officials and will include more competitive, age-appropriate rules. Every team plays twelve games and every player receives a game jersey. Games will be played on both natural grass and artificial surfaces around Long Island, and some evening games will be played on lighted fields.

Parents can find player and team registration information for the 2007 season by visiting the OBLL Web site (oysterbaylacrosse.com) or by contacting the league office at: 681-9652 or via email at: obll.pr@gmail.com.

The OBLL was created in 2006 to offer a competitive, organized environment in which kids can participate and excel in the game of lacrosse. OBLL President John Pappas is a retired athletic director for Syosset School District, and a former high school and youth athletics coach. Chairman John Lynott is a former Massapequa youth lacrosse coach. For more information: oysterbaylacrosse.com or Contact: obll.pr@gmail.com or call 681-9652.
