+The Harbor Lane Library together with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 13-12, will be presenting a Basic Boating Safety Course on various dates. There is a materials fee of $50. Sign up by calling 541-8497.

+Free income tax preparation will be offered from AARP for seniors on Thursdays, through April 12, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Central Avenue branch and on Fridays, through April 13, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring a picture ID, last year's tax return, W-2 forms, 1099 forms and all pertinent records to get your free income tax help.

+On Friday, March 9, 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Central Avenue building, a St. Patrick's Day/spring craft will be taught by Nancy McCormack. Participants will create a festive St. Patrick's Day Plate and decorate a holiday cupcake. Registration is underway in the adult reference department at both buildings. There is a $3 materials fee. +Registration is underway for a bus trip to Madame Tussaud's in Manhattan, Tuesday, April 17, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The fee is $69 per person. After the museum, the group will have lunch in Chinatown at the Peking Duck Inn.

+On Monday, May 21, the library has organized a bus trip to Lancaster, Pennsylvania for an Amish in home dinner and dairy tour. The cost is $77 per person. Registration is underway.

+The Farmingdale Library offers computer classes for adults. Contact the Library for details.

+The volunteers are in the library Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to noon from Senior Connections. Help is available to find out what you can do to avoid a lot of health problems of the older generation.

+Soprano/tenor duet Mary McCarthy and Don Wiggins will perform everything from opera classics to musical theater, Sunday, March 4, 2 p.m.

+The short story group will meet Monday, March 5, 10:30 a.m. to noon and the poetry group will meet Wednesday, March 7, 7 to 9 p.m.

+The Plainedge Library offers a Little Patrons Enrichment Program for three and four year olds by a certified teacher. The program helps to alleviate separation anxiety, prepares for kindergarten, helps with pre-writing skills, and has interactive play, storytime and crafts. The fee is $750 for three days for four year olds and $550 for two days for three years olds. Spaces are still available. The program runs September to May.

+On Tuesday, March 6, 2 p.m. discussion leader Fran Cohen will cover the novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hossein. To receive a copy of the novel see Jose Diaz at the reference desk.
