Two accidents in one day on Park Boulevard

Two serious motor vehicle accidents last Thursday occurred on Park Boulevard in Massapequa Park and left one woman seriously injured.

In that accident, Sharlene Murillo, 21, of North Hawthorne St., Massapequa Park was operating a 1997 Nissan north on Park Boulevard at approximately 3 a.m. when she crossed into the southbound lane, swerved right and skidded up onto the lawn of a home at 101 Abbey Street. The vehicle collided with a brick chimney and central air conditioning unit, and came to a stop, resting up against a tree. Murillo was rushed unconscious to Nassau University Medical Center (PkeC), with head trauma. She was charged at the hospital with driving while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle without a license.

The second accident that day occurred shortly after noon at Park Boulevard and Massapequa Avenue. Police said John Pavia, 17, of Saltaire Pl., Massapequa was operating a 2003 Hummer east on Massapequa Avenue when it collided with a 2000 Chevrolet being driven north on Park Boulevard by Loretta Ross, 28, of Tyrconnell Ave., Massapequa Park. Pavia's vehicle, which had six, 16-year-old passengers, flipped onto its side.

The six passengers and two more, transported to NUMC in departmental ambulances for complaints of pain. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Days before Massapequa Park Village Mayor James Altadonna said that he was in touch with the 7th Precinct because he has been receiving complaints from residents about traffic and speeding along Park Boulevard. While it has not been determined that speed was involved in any of the incidents above, Altadonna said that he is hoping that police can provide more enforcement along that roadway.

"It's definitely out of control," he said of the speeding.
