Hearing on MPK Village budget set for this week Massapequa Park Village presented a $6,239,310 budget for 2007-08 year this week. The tentative budget is an increase in spending of $273,437 over the current budget, or 4.6 percent. That proposed increase will, however, be made up for by an anticipated increase in revenue from a number of sources. The Village's assessments increased by $171,000 and the Village continues to see record revenues from mortgage taxes, building and renovations. As a result, the Mayor announced that he anticipated maintaining the current tax rate at $8.37, which means that a resident living in a home assessed at $5,000 will pay approximately $418 a year in Village taxes. "We aren't adding anything or taking away any service or programs in this budget," said Peggy Caltabiano. "And we will continue to make improvements throughout the Village." Some of those improvements will be made at Brady and Colleran Parks. Brady is due to have its well-used basketball courts refurbished around June and Colleran will receive new play equipment as well as a new walkway, possibly in mid-April.
