Eleanor Gilligan: 96, retired RN and Dominican Village resident

Amityville resident Eleanor Gilligan, who had lived at Dominican Village for the past seven years, died February 28, 2007. She was 96 years old and had lived in Hicksville for 48 years.

Born one of fourteen children in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, she later moved to Hicksville and worked as a Registered Nurse at the Nassau County Medical Center for 25 years before her retirement.

According to her daughter, Eve, she was a funloving woman who loved to play bridge, lawn bowl and garden. She also loved to entertain friends and family and was an excellent cook.

Mrs. Gilligan leaves behind her children: Thomas, George and Eve Allegra; her grandchildren: Michael Jr., Matthew, Thomas, Mary Jo, George Ryan and Roy Spencer; her great great grandchildren: George Ryan Jr. and Elizabeth Ann; her sisters, Elizabeth Pepper of New Jersey and Jane Mitchell of Williamsport, Pennsylvania; as well as other loved ones and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, William and 11 of her brothers and sisters.

A Memorial Mass was held at the Holy Cross R.C. Church, Nesconset, on March 10, 2007 with arrangements by The Branch Funeral Home, Smithtown and followed by a private cremation.
