Local libraries to hold budget and board of trustee votes

Local libraries will be holding their budget and board of trustee votes in the coming weeks. Following is a list of libraries together with pertinent information for voters.

Amityville: The library is proposing a $2,274,105 budget, an increase of $138,403 from the current budget of $2,135,702. That would increase the tax rate in the Babylon portion of the library district from $6.90 to $7,37; and in the Oyster Bay portion from $24,91 to $26.19 cents per $100 of assessed value.

Incumbent trustee Janice Todt is not seeking reelection. Running unopposed for her seat is Salvatore Spizzirri.

"The library continues its commitment to provide current materials, resources, and programs for all ages and a variety of interests," said Library Director Nora Schual. "Maintenance of the physical plant is addressed in the proposed budget through repair and upgrade plans for heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. The proposed budget also calls for a new unit to store, display and access the library's unique history collection."

Massapequa: The library will hold its budget and trustee vote in conjunction with the school district vote Tuesday, May 15. The current library budget of $4,998,852 is expected to increase to $5,101,056, if approved by voters. That would bring the current tax rate per $100 of assessed value from $18.74. A proposed tax rate under the new spending plan has not been determined. Trustee John Laibach is seeking reelection. The polls are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
