Stefanich reminds residents how to avoid late tax payment penalties Oyster Bay Town Receiver of Taxes James J. Stefanich reminds residential property owners that it is essential and mandatory to notify his office upon satisfying their mortgage. In addition, Receiver Stefanich encourages residents who recently purchased a home, condominium or co-op unit, or just refinanced or transferred the mortgage on their property, to be sure that notification in writing is sent to James J. Stefanich, Receiver of Taxes, Town of Oyster Bay, 74 Audrey Ave., Oyster Bay, NY 11771-1539. A homeowner relying on a bank or mortgage company to notify the tax office may find there is a delay in billing the homeowner directly, which can lead to the imposition of a late payment penalty. When writing, property owners should include the legal property description, including the school district, section, block, and lot numbers, as well as the name and address to whom current and future tax bills should be directed. Residents may also report their information in person by visiting the Office of the Receiver of Taxes. The Receiver noted that property owners residing in incorporated villages must also notify their village assessor. Homeowners requiring further assistance should contact the Office of the Receiver of Taxes at 624-6400.
