Barbara Koster: former longtime Amityville resident Barbara (Bunnell) Koster, who grew up in Amityville in one of the area's founding families, died February 19, 2007 at York Hospital, Pennsylvania after a valiant battle with cancer. She was 76 years old and had lived on Ocean Avenue in Amityville for about 25 years, according to her cousin Peggy Crichton with whom she grew up. Born August 25, 1930 in Brooklyn to Rise and Edith Bunnell, she was raised in Amityville and graduated from its schools. She attended college at Adelphi University and after marrying and moving from the area, spent her life caring for her beloved husband and children. Mrs. Koster was a longtime member of St. Mary's Church and the Unqua Corinthian Yacht Club who also loved to swim, garden, play bridge and spend time with her beloved family. She leaves behind her husband of 57 years, Richard A. "Dick;" her children: Richard I. of Dover, Pennsylvania, Joan D. Roth of Durango, Colorado, Phyllis I. of Hellam, Pennsylvania and Lynn A. of York, Pennsylvania; her grandchildren: Taylor, Lauren, Jessica, Kristina, Greg and Gage; her cousin, Gilbert Bunnell of York, Pennsylvania; as well as other loved ones and friends. She was predeceased by her brother, George Rice Bunnell. A private memorial service was held by the family, arranged by the Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory in York.
