Massapequa resident receives Environmental Award
Thomas Immerso, of Massapequa, is the recipient of the 2006 Environmental Science Award from the New York Water Environment Association (NYWEA), a statewide nonprofit organization of environmental engineers and water quality management professionals. The award was presented at NYWEA's 79th annual meeting held February 5 to 7 in New York City.
Immerso is a sanitary engineer for the Nassau County Department of Public Works and serves as a project manager for the Cedar Creek Water Pollution Control Plant. His present duties include working on the rehabilitation and upgrading of three wastewater pumping stations in Massapequa. Immerso has been an active NYWEA member for more than 20 years, and is past chair of the Long Island Chapter's Environmental Science Committee. He is a current LIchapter board member , and is past recipient of the NYWEA Chapter Achievement Award. He also received the Silver Shovel Award for engineers in 2005. Immerso holds an MS degree in environmental engineering from Stony Brook University. He resides in Massapequa with his wife, Anne Marie.
