Howitt Middle School students "Pay it Forward" to children in Africa

Students in Ms. Hecht's home and careers class at Farmingdale's Howitt Middle School recently hand-crafted "Hug Me Teddy Bears" for children in Ghana, Africa. The seventh grade class recently viewed the movie, Pay it Forward, and decided that they would like to perform acts of kindness to reach out during a global epidemic. Hecht and her students felt that making these teddy bears and sending them to underprivileged children in Africa would be a perfect way to do this. Hecht's niece, Erin Mc Donnell, who was in Ghana doing research, was more than happy to lend a hand and distribute the bears to some children in a nearby village. For some, this was the first toy they ever received.
Shown, left to right, back row, are Lena Elfawal, Hannah Soluri, Peter Corey, Frank Deluca, Jennifer Lopresto and Brian Bylicki and in the front row are Brooke Troiano, Ryan O'Keefe, Amirita Mohip, Miguel Hutchinson, Brian Rubenacker.
