A fire ripped through a home at 316 Charles Ave., Massapequa Park causing extensive damage. The fire broke out at approximately 9 a.m., Monday, April 16, and first arriving units found flames coming from the windows on the first and second floors.
Upon their arrival, firefighters were told that everyone was out of the home. A primary and secondary search was conducted, while several hoses were laid and an attack was made. It took firefighters approximately 15 minutes to bring the fire under control, according to Massapequa Fire Chief Tom Kennelly.
"Everything went smoothly and we had sufficient water and personnel at the scene," said Kennelly. "We had some heat transfer to an adjoining house and the siding melted, but otherwise everything else went smoothly."
While at the scene, however, firefighters got two additional calls for assistance, one a gas leak in East Massapequa, off of Roosevelt and the other an alarm at the Ames school. "Everything worked out but we had to monitor those calls at the same time we were at the scene on Charles Avenue," said Kennelly.
