Assemblyman Saladino to honor 'Rosie the Riveter' Assemblyman Joseph Saladino plans to present a Rosie the Riveter award to women who worked in positions vacated by the men needed on the front lines of the European and the Pacific theaters during World War II. "Women on the home front sacrificed for the war effort by filling vital positions needed to meet wartime production," said Saladino. "Without their efforts we would not have been able to maintain a high level of National Defense wartime production levels or increase them at the height of WWII." The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 10 at the American Air Power Museum at the Republic Airport in Farmingdale. The Long Island Republican Assembly members will present special awards that recognize and pay proper tribute to these hard working, patriotic women whose sacrifice helped build and provide necessary equipment production support to service men and women around the world. Assemblyman Saladino is especially appreciative and respectful of the very important role of women in the military and in support of our National Defense. His maternal grandmother, Jessie Pupura, was one of the first women in our nation's history to be inducted into the US Navy. | |||||
