Lifelong Massapequa resident, Julie Nelson opens doors to ÔThe Actors Garage'

The Actor's Garage (TAG), a provider of creative and confidence-building programs for after school programs and separately-enrolled classes announces the opening of its fifth Long Island location in Massapequa, at the Community United Methodist Church. The Massapequa location brings the total number of schools to 15 nationwide.

Julie Nelson has been named director of the Massapequa location, bringing her local teaching experiences to her new role. Nelson is a life-long resident of Massapequa, originally in North Massapequa and currently in Nassau Shores.

"My family has strong roots within this community," shared Nelson. "My grandfather, Victor Feliccia, was the choir director of the Community United Methodist Church for 33 years and I've taught both nursery and elementary-aged children right here in Massapequa for years," continued Nelson. "My goal is to help kids embrace who they are, help them grow personally and enable them to learn how to collaborate in a 'safe' environment."

Ann Gray Graf, founder of The Actor's Garage believes kids need to be given opportunities to positively experience listening, creating and performing that translate across various environments in their lives. "It can be a classroom, a playground or eventually, a job interview or a boardroom presentation," stated Graf. "We teach life skills in a kidfriendly, fun way through acting exercises and games that set the stage for positive interaction among the group."
