Town of Oyster Bay announces beaches open Saturday, May 26th

Town of Oyster Bay residents who just can't wait for the official start of summer to get out on the beach can start a little bit early. According to Town Councilwoman Rose Marie Walker, residents can start enjoying Tobay Beach, Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Beach in Oyster Bay, Centre Island Beach and Philip B. Healey at Florence Avenue in Massapequa on Saturday, May 26, when they open for weekends. "Starting on Saturday, May 26, these four beaches will be open on Saturdays and Sundays only from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.," Councilwoman Walker said. "Beaches will officially open seven days a week beginning Saturday, June 16."

The Councilwoman added that beach stickers are on sale now at Tobay Beach, John J. Burns Town Park in Massapequa and Theodore Roosevelt Beach in Oyster Bay. In or- der to purchase a sticker, a resident must bring along a driver's license and vehicle registration. The cost for a sticker, which is good at all Town beaches throughout the summer, is $35.

"Town resident volunteer firefighters, auxiliary police and members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary get a reduced rate of $15, the Town's way of thanking them for the vital services they provide," Councilwoman Walker said. "Senior citizens, 60 and older, who have a Town Senior Citizen Beach ID Card, obtainable at the Town Clerk's Office for $17, can obtain a beach sticker at no charge. This is another way the Town recognizes the innumerable contributions our seniors have made, and continue to make, to our communities."

For more information about obtaining a beach pass, call the Town of Oyster Bay Parks Department Beach Division at 797-4110.
