Happy 100th Birthday Maria Wohlers

On April 7, 2007 Maria Wohlers, a resident of Broadlawn Manor, Amityville, celebrated her 100th birthday.

Mrs. Wohlers was born in Elm, Germany and in 1923, at the age of 18, immigrated to the United States. She worked in her uncle's bakery on Staten Island until April 8, 1927 when she married Ernst Wohlers. The couple moved to Ridgewood, Queens, where they raised their two sons, Fred and Robert. Mrs. Wohlers was widowed after 49 years of marriage.

On May 21, 1992, she became a resident of Broadlawn Manor. For several years she served as a volunteer at the facility.

Broadlawn Manor planned a party in the main dining room for Mrs. Wohlers, with fellow residents and staff members joining in the festivities. There were flowers, balloons and entertainment, topped off with a three-tier birthday cake. The fete was followed by a private pizza party which was attended by her sons, her daughters-in-law, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her godson, Walter Wesch and his family, along with several close family friends. At the end of the get-together the family starting planning for her 101st birthday bash.
