Plainedge students participate in the LIPA clean energy challenge

Fifth grade students from Eastplain Elementary School in Plainedge participated in the Long Island Power Authority's (LIPA) Long Island Schools Clean Energy Challenge at Nassau Coliseum on March 27. The students, Kyle Cawley, Melissa Huebner, Rachel Molloy and Brendon Nally, took home second prize.

The students created a project that could be a solution to the region's energy needs. They focused their project on solar energy, showing how it could heat a home and reduce the need for fossil fuels. They presented their project with a working model and display of their research.
