Robert Walters: L.I. Philharmonic Choir founding member Longtime Massapequa Park resident and music lover Robert E. Walters died May 10, 2007. He was 85 years old and was a founding member of the Long Island Philharmonic Choir. "He was the anchor of our bass section and was very committed to the choir," said Frances Roberts, chorus director from the L.I. Philharmonic Choir who said added he was was a wonderful man. He helped found the choir in 1979 and was involved for many years in the volunteer singing group. Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mr. Walters, who had lived on Harmony Drive in Massapequa Park for 56 years, also sang and played the hand-bells in his church's choir. He was a World War II veteran and captain in the U.S. Air Force. He leaves behind his wife, Dorothy; his children: Christopher and his wife Peggy and Robert A. and his wife Janet and Nancy; his brother, Raymond and his wife Doris; his grandchildren: Shaun and his wife Patricia, Steven and his wife Deirdre, Andrew and his wife Chandra, Kristin and Kimberly; his great grandchildren: Maura, Shaun, Tyler and Reagan.
Religious and Memorial services were held May 16, 2007 at the Presbyterian Community Church, Massapequa. Interment followed at Long Island National cemetery, Farmingdale.
