Inspirational individuals are remembered... The HS that helped them begin their journeys

Each year the Farmingdale School District honors alumni who have succeeded in reaching their goals during a ceremony and induction into the district's "Wall of Fame." Out of countless applications and numerous nominees, the "Wall of Fame," committee members- Dr. Philip Acinapuro, Mr. David Bartlett, Mrs. Felice Hungerford, Mr. Mateo Petrera, and Dr. Donna J. Stanza, chairperson- chose four people for the "Wall of Fame" honor. These nominees have distinguished themselves in their ten years, or more, since high school and serve as role models for the students. This year on Monday, April 30, four alumni were added to the "Wall of Fame" and recognized by the Farmingdale School District Board of Education, administration and community.

Angelo A. Delligatti, class of 1963, became the District Attorney for Nassau County. A career in town government followed as Supervisor and Town Councilman. Delligatti is a family man and champion of numerous causes committed to serving the community. Jay Weinstein, class of 1983, graduated from the Culinary Institute of American and New York University with a degree in journalism. A restaurateur and author of three foodrelated books, Jay, uses organic ingredients in his recipes. His success in both journalism and culinary arts is rounded out by his role as Executive Editor of Kitchen and Cook. Thomas Gambino, Jr., class of 1972, will be remembered as a Congressional Medal of Valor winner and a 17-year firefighter. He gave his life in a courageous effort to rescue other New Yorkers on September 11, 2001. As a father, son and husband he is honored as a never-ending example of bravery and selflessness. Christian Farrell, class of 1984, served his country as a Staff Sergeant with distinction and honor. He left a career as a reporter and sports anchor for the Army Reserves with tours of duty in Cuba and Iraq. He wrote a column for fellow soldiers in the 4th Infantry Division Newspaper reporting sports and war coverage. A recipient of numerous service awards and medals, Farrell is also a family man.

Donna Stanza presented the nominees with their plaques on Monday night, April 30. Before the plaque presentation, friends and family members of the nominees spoke in honor of the recipient. The nominees then had the opportunity to say a few words themselves. Congratulations to all the nominees.
