5th Grade Farmingdale Students learn about prosthetic limbs

Fifth grade students at the Albany Avenue School in Farmingdale were engrossed in the presentation by Dennis Oehler. The former 100-meter world record holder for below the leg amputees made his annual visit to the school. Oehler sent a powerful message to the students about the acceptance of others who are different. The delivery of the message was so captivating that the students did not take their eyes or ears off of him. At the end of the assembly, Oehler took his prosthetic off to show the children his reality. The children were amazed at his courage and physical accomplishments. Everyone left with a new appreciation for people with disabilities.
