Farmingdale middle school welcomes Cyril Toullier a former resident of France

Farmingdale's Howitt Middle School enthusiastically welcomed Cyril Toullier, a French native and now Long Island resident. Toullier took time away from his own work day and created a powerpoint presentation for Howitt's sixth grade students to help them see and understand the contributions that France has made to America and the world. He also allowed students to better understand the connections between the French culture and language and the American culture and the English language.

Before Toullier's visit to Howitt, students prepared a list of questions. After the powerpoint presentation, Monsieur Toullier held a question and answer session. Hands waved in the auditorium so that their questions would be answered. Students were interested in knowing about many things. They wanted to know about French food, the Eiffel Tower, French fashion, French rap music, as well as a myriad of other questions. Many students wanted to know what it was like for Toullier to appear on the Martha Stewart Show and on French radio. Toullier was happy to answer any and all questions.

Toullier discussed his own background as a Sorbonne University graduate. He discussed how important it is to learn all that there is to learn since one never knows where life's path will go. He informed students that the French people love the American English accent and they are happy to help visitors since they are enthralled by the American culture and language. Toullier is passionate about his love for both France and America and he wishes to promote good will and understanding between the two countries, one person at a time.

Shown in the photo, Cyril Toullier, center, is welcomed at Howitt Middle School by Rita Padden, director of languages other than English for Farmingdale Public School, left, and Linda Miller, teacher of French, right.
