Adam Butcher: retired NYPD & former Massapequa Park resident

Longtime Massapequa Park resident and retired New York City Police Deputy Inspector Adam Butcher died May 12, 2007 after a battle with cancer at his Springhill, Florida home. He was 80-years old and was a loving father of nine.

Born in Brooklyn on November 16, 1926, he served in the U.S. Navy. With dedication, he rose through the ranks of the New York Police Department to Deputy Inspector before his retirement in 1976, after which he ran the Adam & Eve Video Store on Broadway in Massapequa until 1991.

Mr. Butcher lived on Beechwood Place in Massapequa Park for 32 years before relocating to Springhill, Florida with his wife in 1992.

According to his family, he was a gifted jeweler and furniture maker who also handcrafted intricate wood boxes and bowls.

Mr. Butcher leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Dolores; his children: Barbara, Carolyn Hammer, Susan Fiori, Beth, Alan, Matt and Joseph; his grandchildren: Sarah Roczicka, Emily and Adam Hammer, Dylan, Luke and Jacob; his daughterin law, Rovi; his sons-in-law: Jerry Fiori and Mark Hammer; his sister, Gloria Costantino of Copiague; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sons, Scott and John.
