Massapequa teens arrested on drug, weapons and assault charges following traffic stop

A routine traffic stop resulted in the arrest of three teens for possession of illegal drugs and weapons, and another teen for assault. Police gave this account:

Police pulled over a 2000 Saturn on Park Boulevard and Avoca Avenue in Massapequa Park at approximately 4:10 p.m., May 28 because of a defective brake light. After smelling marijuana, police conducted an investigation and found an array of drugs and illegal weapons in the vehicle. Passenger Anthony Gelormino, 16, Harmony Dr., Massapequa Park was arrested for criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Also found in Gelormino's pockets following a search were a set of brass knuckles, an electronic scale, pills and a grinder.

In addition, Evan Krohn, 19, Ocean Ave., Massapequa and Daniel Hyslop, 19, Cartwright Boulevard, Massapequa Park were also arrested after they were found to be in possession of marijuana.

As police were conducting the investigation and making the arrests, Melissa Gelormino, 18, also of Harmony Drive, Massapequa Park, arrived on the scene after being driven there by Kevin McGuiness, 19 of Michigan Ave., Massapequa. Police said the two pushed and shoved them as they were making their arrests. Melissa Gelormino and McGuiness were charged with obstructing governmental administration. Gelormino was also charged with resisting arrest and possession of a dangerous weapon, a switchblade knife.
