Andrew Parker of Massapequa named a Presser Scholar

Andrew Parker of Massapequa Park, a 2004 graduate of Massapequa High School and now a junior oboe performance major at the Conservatory of Music at SUNY Purchase, Purchase, New York, has been named a Presser Scholar. The Presser Scholar Award presented by the Presser Foundation of Haverford, Pennsylvania is a prestigious award that honors service to the community and other exemplary characteristics of involvement and citizenship in addition to scholastic achievement.

Along with Parker's music studies, he holds the position of orchestra manager of the Purchase Symphony Orchestra and outreach coordinator for the Purchase Conservatory of Music. Parker is an active member of the music community of Purchase College, Westchester County and Long Island performing with ensembles such as the Hofstra Opera Orchestra, The Gray Wig Alumni and numerous community theaters. In addition, he has been invited to attend the prestigious

Texas Music Festival in Houston, Texas in June. Parker plans to pursue a career as an oboe performer.
