Broadlawn Manor hosts Volunteer Appreciation Night

Broadlawn Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center hosted its Annual Volunteer Appreciation Night on April 19. Over 120 guests celebrated this special evening with a delicious buffet supper, music and sincere gratitude. Gerard Kaiser, administrator, and Elizabeth Frasca, director of recreation, presented each of the senior and junior volunteers with their heartfelt thanks and a certificate of appreciation. Kaiser stated, "At Broadlawn Manor, we recognize and appreciate the valuable resource each of our volunteers make every day."

Each year, Broadlawn Manor bestows the prestigious Volunteer of the Year Award. For 2007, the recipients of this award are Lois Striedl, Senior Volunteer and Jennifer Imbrogno, Junior Volunteer. Lois Striedl resides in Seaford with her husband Bob. They have two children and one grandson. Lois is the Recording Secretary at the Massapequa Senior Center and an active member of the AARP Massapequa Chapter. Lois has a busy schedule, but still finds time every week to volunteer at Broadlawn Manor. For over three years, Lois has shared her friendly and caring nature in a host of ways. Lois assists with programs, socialization and special events. She is devoted, dependable and respected by all.

Jennifer Imbrogno, age 13, is a resident of Massapequa and student at Berner Junior High School. Jennifer is quite accomplished for her age. She enjoys playing field hockey, soccer, the violin, viola and piano. She is an active Girl Scout, a Lector Acolyte at St. David's Church in Massapequa Park and has been dancing for nine years. Jennifer excels in her studies and has won her Science Fair three years in a row and participated in the Foreign Language Festival. Clearly, Jennifer is a very busy teenager. Yet, she makes time for Broadlawn Manor and our residents. On Saturday, Jennifer can be seen escorting residents to Bingo and assisting anyone who might need her help while playing the game. Jennifer shares her creativity and compassion and generously makes homemade craft items as prizes for the residents. Her gift of time, talent and enthusiasm is very much appreciated and admired.

Elizabeth Frasca, Director of Recreation, stated, "she is indeed fortunate having members of our community choosing to make a difference in the lives of our residents. Our volunteers are a key component to so many of our activities and events. We are always seeking new volunteers and would love to see more of our younger generation become involved."
