Arthur Scheer: decorated Massapequa Veteran

Longtime Massapequa resident Arthur L. Scheer died May 9, 2007 at New Island Hospital in Bethpage. He was 90 years old and had lived in Massapequa for 57 years.

Born November 15, 1915 in the Bronx to Aaron and Sadie (Sheer) Scheer he served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received several medals.

Mr. Scheer was a retired salesman for the State Button Company in New York City, was a member of the marathon bridge group and loved to play golf. As a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the reserves, he was a member of the Retired Officers Association.

He leaves behind his wife of almost 35 years, Eleanor C. Scheer of Massapequa; his daughter: Laurene Cullinan and her husband Patrick; his grandchildren: Jason and his wife Lisa Cullinan, Heather, Christine and Jennifer Cullinan; his stepchildren: Joseph Palau of Washingtonville, New York, John Palau of Buffalo, New York, Patricia Palma of Freeport, New York, Charles Palau of Larkspur, California, Thomas Palau of Buffalo, New York, Michael Palau of New York, New York; his step grandchildren: Jack Palau and his wife Jamie and Jean Zambrano.

Rabbi Kathleen A. Novick officiated at a Funeral Service in the Powell Funeral Home, 67 Broadway, Amityville on May 13, 2007. Interment followed in National Cemetery at Calvertib with Military Honors the next day.
