Dr. Francis Colbourn: Longtime ÔPequan Professor
Born July 5, 1926 in New Haven Connecticut to Ira and Justine (O'Connell) he served with distinction in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was awarded several medals. Before moving to Massapequa, he lived in Jamaica Estates, Queens and Seaford. For many years he was an attorney for Woolworth's and retired as a professor in the Communications Department of Pace University in New York. According to his wife, he enjoyed gardening, writing, and classical music. He was also Pace's Debate coach and was involved with the Seaford Historical Society. Dr. Colbourn leaves behind his wife of 26 years, Dr. Andrea M. Colbourn of Massapequa; his children: Daniel, David and Bruce of Seaford and Ann of Provincetown, Massachusetts; and his grandchildren: Luke, Brent, Elizabeth, and Erin.
A Prayer Service was conducted at the Powell Funeral Home, Inc., 67 Broadway, Amityville, on May 29, 2007. A Mass of Christian Burial was officiated at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Massapequa on May 30, 2007 followed by interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meriden, Connecticut with Military Honors.
