The Firemen's Association of the State of New York, known as FASNY, has honored firefighters of the North Massapequa Fire Department who have faithfully served the department for over 50 years. Those receiving proclamations for their 50 years of service are Ex-Chief Gerard McCormack, Former commissioner Jackson B. Pokress and Firefighter Angelo Piccolo. Ex-Chief and Commissioner Fred Penna was honored for his over 60 years of service. Chief of the Department Gary Brosnan, representing FASNY, presented the proclamations to Jackson B. Pokress, left, and Ex-Chief Fred Penna, right. Pokress has served on the Board of Fire commissioners for 35 years, 15 years as commissioner and 20 years as secretary. Ex-Chief Penna's father served as Chief in 1942. Ex- Chief Gerard McCormack passed away June 2006. This is the first time in the 73-year history of the department that FASNY has honored firefighters for their loyal and dedicated service.
