Albert Alliksen
"He was a very talented man and very proud of the work he did as well as with his service during the war," said his daugher-in-law, Diane Alliksen. Mr. Alliksen served in the U.S. Army during World War II, a member of the 99th Infantry. He took part in five major campaigns including the Battle of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star. A tugboat captain, he was also an avid fisherman. "He absolutely loved the water and for a short time had a home in Seaford on the water," said his daughter-in-law. He moved from Massapequa Park about 20 years ago. His family described him also as a loving grandfather who adored his grandchildren. Mr. Alliksen is survived by his wife Grace and his children, Michael and his wife Diane of Wantagh; Marion McBride and her husband Robert of Dix Hills, David of Florida and Erik. Nine grandchildren also survive him. He was predeceased by his first wife Catherine. Mr. Alliksen reposed at the Charles J. O'Shea Funeral Home in Wantagh. A celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial was said at St. Frances de Chantal, R.C. Church. Interment followed in National Cemetery at Pinelawn on Wednesday, July 18, 2007. | |||||
