Congressman King to hold blood drive September 11 In his continuing effort to establish September 11th as a national day of voluntary service, charity and good deeds, Congressman Peter T. King (R-Seaford) will be holding a blood drive on September 11th, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at his District Office, 1003 Park Blvd, Massapequa Park. The blood drive will be administered by Long Island Blood Services. "This blood drive is a way to encourage people to perform one special deed on September 11th, as a way to honor the victims and heroes of that tragic day," Congressman King stated. "It is also a way to rekindle the spirit of unity and compassion that existed in the nation after the tragedy." According to Congressman King, the Long Island region suffers from a shortage of local blood donors, as only 2 percent of the region's population donates blood each year, compared to the national average of 5 percent. Donors must be age 16 to 75 (16 with written parental permission; 76 plus accepted with doctor's note), weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in general good health. At the time of donation, donors must have either photo or signed identification and know their social security number. Last year, Congressman King and U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton joined the prominent nonprofit group myGoodDeed for the 5th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks to encourage people everywhere to set aside time every September 11th to perform good deeds of their choice to help others in need.
To schedule an appointment to donate blood, please contact Congressman King's Massapequa Park District Office at 516 or 631- 541-4225.
