Town of Oyster Bay honors 2007 Women of Distinction
"The 'Women of Distinction' Program has certainly proven to be a memorable tradition, honoring women who stand as role models for the younger generation in the Town of Oyster Bay," Supervisor Venditto said. "These women are a shining example of the outstanding citizenship that has made the Town of Oyster Bay such a special place to live and raise a family." This year's designees are Corinne Rodi for Arts, Debbie Regan for Business, Laura Schultz for Community and Civic Affairs, Arlene Martin for Education, Janice Boyd for Government, Eileen Scanlon for Health Services and Lisa Ott for Humanitarian and Joann Brosca as a Volunteer. The following from this area are spotlighted: Corinne Rodi - Arts For over 50 years, Corinne Rodi has taught children and adults in the community the art of dance at her Massapequa dance studio. When watching her dance and teach her classes, you can see her enthusiasm shine both in her and her students. "Miss Corinne," as she is affectionately known by her students, has touched the lives of hundreds of children and their families, teaching everything from tap and ballet to jazz and hip-hop. Rodi is also a founding member of the Ann Bambino Lodge, of which she's served as president. She has held dance classes through the Lodge and through adult education courses at many local schools. Rodi could easily retire but her love of dancing is so strong that she loves to share it with others too much. Arlene Martin - Education Arlene Martin has been a fixture in Massapequa School District for many years, showing much dedication to the community. For over seven years, she has served as President of the Massapequa Board of Education and has been a member of the board for over nine years. Her experience as an educator for over 30 years makes Arlene a tremendous asset to the board's goals in all areas of education. Martin is also an active member of the district's Budget and Finance Committee and HIV/ AIDS Committee. Additionally, she is involved in the Massapequa Takes Action Committee, a joint effort district representatives and local organizations to prevent student alcohol and drug use. Her great enthusiasm and spirit can easily be seen when she interacts with students, which she says is the most rewarding part of her involvement in education. Many children and parents of the community have benefited from having an individual like Martin a part of their lives. Oyster Bay Town officials recognized eight recipients of the Town's Women of Distinction Awards. Shown, back row, are Receiver of Taxes James J. Stefanich, Councilman Angelo A.
