Third championship for St. Rose Flyers

For the third time in four years, the St. Rose Flyers CYO Volleyball team won the LI CYO championship. The Girls Senior Level team, composed of one 12th, nine 11th and two 10th graders, also won the prestigious Marge McGorry Sportsmanship Award for the first time, capping a successful season. The team finished the regular season as the league champs for the second year in a row with a 28-2 record. In the playoff semi-final match, they defeated a team from St. Aidans in two games. The diocesan finals were played at Holy Trinity high school on May 14. In the finals, St. Rose defeated Holy Family of Hicksville in three games, 25-11, 22-25, 25-23 in an exciting championship level match. The Flyers excelled in this championship season through unselfish play, teamwork

and commitment by the players and their parents, all while having fun and exhibiting good sportsmanship. The Flyers were coached by Lisa Giammalvo and Bruce Borgeson and strongly supported by St. Rose Girls Volleyball Coordinator Ernie Hoffman.
