Gerard Ingram: Former South Farmingdale F.D. Volunteer and Veteran
BY TIFFANY ELLIOTT

Gerard Ingram
"My father loved to spend time with his family whether it meant cooking you an omelet with vegetables grown from his own organic garden or sailing on the Great South Bay and gathering mussels and clams for dinner," said Gerard Ingram's son, Kevin.

Gerard Francis Ingram, 81, died June 27, 2007 at Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, North Carolina after an illness. A 25-year South Farmingdale resident and member of the South Farmingdale Fire Department, Mr. Ingram loved best to spend time with his family and friends.

Born in Georgia to Logan and Josephine (Koullen) he was a proud World War II Army Infantry veteran

based in Germany and was in one of the first troops to enter and liberate the Buchenwald Concentration Camp, which haunted him for the rest of his life, said his family.

Mr. Ingram was co-founder of the now defunct Ingram-Howell Construction company with his brother, Logan. The company worked all over Long Island. A long-time South Farmingdale resident, he moved to North Carolina in 1989. He was a member of the Church of Christ congregation in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

He was also both an avid New York Giants and New York Islander fan, a reading volunteer with the Henderson County School system and a former member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Massapequa.

He leaves behind his children: Jerilyn of Friday Harbor, Washington, Kevin and his wife Mary of Redlands, California and Gregory and his wife Heidi of Tiburon, California; his brother, Logan of Germantown, Maryland; his grandchildren: Christopher, Kathleen, Colin, Corinne, Lauren, Brittany, Ryan and Conner. He was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn in 2002 and his brother, Robert.

He reposed at the McCourt & Trudden Funeral Home, Farmingdale, on July 2, 2007. A Funeral Mass was said July 3, 2007 at Our lady of Lourdes R.C. Church followed by interment in Long Island National Cemetery, Pinelawn.

Donations in Mr. Ingram's name can be sent to The Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O. Box 515, Northampton, Massachusetts 01061 or visit www.macular.org.
