Former Massapequa resident Jeanne Robson
By Jonathan Marconi

Jeanne M. Robson, a devoted family woman and animal lover with a penchant for all things feline, died of a heart attack July 6, 2007. She was 57- years-old and was caring for her mother, Geraldine Vilas, at the time she was stricken.

"Her heart just stopped and we truly don't know why," said Peter Robson, Jeanne's husband. "It was completely unexpected."

Her husband said his wife had everything to live for- three beautiful children, a grandchild and another on the way.

"It was not supposed to be like this," said her mother.

Robson moved from the lower East side of Manhattan to Division Avenue in Massapequa with her family when she was just a child. She attended Fairfield Elementary School and graduated from Massapequa High School in 1969. She went on to attain a fine arts degree from Hofstra University.

She devoted herself to her family, her love of art and worked for a time for BOCES in Bellmore where she taught children with emotional and mental disabilities. All the while, she tended to two great passions, rescuing animals in need and traveling.

"She loved to travel, loved cruises," said her husband. "We traveled the Caribbean and the Mediterranean by sea."

Her daughter Allison acknowledges her mother's love of travel but said her adoration for animals was unmatched. "She had about eight stray cats which she took in and cared for," said her daughter. "She would even help out at the Kent Animal Hospital whenever she could."

In 2003, Mrs. Robson and her husband left her childhood community of Massapequa to open a bed and breakfast in Calverton called Fields of God. Her husband said that was something the couple had discussed since their wedding in 1988.

"It's so fresh," he said referring to their marriage. "It feels like yesterday we were there together."

"Jeanne was extremely passionate," said her mother. "She adored her family and she was always daddy's little girl. She loved him dearly and I hope he puts his arms around her now."

In addition to her mother, her husband and her daughter AllisionKretzmer and her husband Joel Benanti, Mrs. Robson is survived by her other children, Tara Miller and her husband Jeff, and Lindsey Kretzmer, all of Massapequa, and her former husband, William Kretzmer. Her grandchild also survives her, and her daughter is expecting a second grandchild in October.

"She loved her grandchild so much," said Miller. "She was always there when she could- always."

Mrs. Robson reposed at the Charles G. Schmitt Funeral Home in Seaford. A Mass of Christian Burial was said at St. William the Abbot R.C. Church, followed by a private cremation. In honor of Jeanne Robson the family is requesting donations be made to to A.S.P.C.A. Guardian Program, 424 East 92nd St., N.Y.C., NY 10128.
