Bob Collins: former longtime Massapequa resident, loving Patriarch, 84

Former longtime Massapequa resident and Wall Street wiz, Robert "Bob" Joseph Collins died July 18, 2007 in Oxford, Ohio. He was 84-years-old and was described as a creative soul who loved to be with his family. According to those who knew he was a real "Renaissance" man who did everything from writing poetry, painting and dancing to completing crosswords and playing football.

He was born October 30, 1922 in Brentwood, New York, one of 12 children of Carlyn (Cooke) and Robert W. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a decorated Pearl Harbor survivor who was later stationed in the Solomon Islands and on the Patrol Bomber PB-4Y where he fought in the Guadal canal and Midway campaigns as an Aviation Radioman 1st Class.

After graduating from St. Mary's College in California, Murray State inKentucky and Columbia School of Business at NYU, he became a successful Wall Street Trader in New York City. After retiring in 1987, he spent his time traveling the world with his wife and vacationing with his children and grandchildren.

He lived on Herbert Avenue in Massapequa for 41 years before moving to Oxford, Ohio in 2004 to be closer to family.

Mr. Collins leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Tyna (nee Sliwka); his sons: Robert S. and his wife Patricia of Oxford, Ohio and Craig P. and his wife Anne of Clinton, North Carolina; his grandchildren: Emily Rose and Robert Logan; his brothers: Joseph, Malcolm and Christopher; and his sisters: Francis Dowling and Laurie Panzer.

Funeral Services were held July 23, 2007 at the Smith & Ogle Funeral Home in Oxford, Ohio.
