Red Cross honors local humanitarians

Several Long Islanders were honored for their humanitarian spirit during the American Red Cross in Nassau County's 91st Annual Awards Breakfast at the Milleridge Inn Cottage, June 19. In all 10 individuals and three business were recognized for their efforts to improve the quality of life for their fellow Long Islanders by helping the Nassau Red Cross prepare for and respond to disasters.

One of the two highest awards went to Massapequa Park resident Linda Cohn who received the Mrs. and Mrs. Henry P. Davison Memorial Award. Named for the Nassau Chapter's founders, the award is presented annually to the volunteer who most emulates commitment, motivation and the quality of all around performance in Red Cross activities.

"My whole life revolves around the Red Cross; my passion is working with victims of emergencies and catastrophes," said Cohn. "I didn't think it was necessary to honor me, but I am deeply flattered and humbled by it."
