University of Massachusetts names Andriano Baseball Rookie of the Week again...

University of Massachusetts Boston baseball player Mike Andriano of Massapequa, has been named Little East Conference Baseball Rookie of the Week for the week of April 16-22, it was announced today by the conference. He has earned the honor for the second time in three weeks.

The freshman made contributions both on the mound and at the plate for the Beacons. The southpaw made one start on the mound, going nine-plus innings, while allowing three earned runs on eight hits and two walks to go with a season-high eight strikeouts, including six looking vs. Little East Conference foe Keen State College in a 3-2 loss in 10 innings on April 21. The Massapequa High School product traded his pitching glove for a first baseman's mitt the following day and went 2-4 with a run batted in and was flawless in the field, handling all 11 chances, including three picks of throws in the dirt in a 5-3 victory over regionally ranked University of Southern Maine on April 22.

Andriano has certainly gotten the league's attention this season, leading UMass Boston with a 2.09 earned run average and a 4-2 record to go with a team-high 43 innings pitched. He shares the teamlead with six starts on the mound and has allowed just 33 hits for a team-low .209 opponents' batting average for pitchers, who have thrown more than five innings on the staff. He ranks second on the team with 27 strikeouts and has issued just 11 walks for a 2.5:1 strikeout to walk ratio to top the staff. The first-year pitcher has been one of the Beacons' most consistent and reliable pitchers, allowing three runs or less in all of his seven appearances and has thrown at least six innings in all of his starting assignments.

UMass Boston is currently 11-13 on the season and own a 2-7 Little East Conference record.
