STAR Rebate program information available The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance has launched a public outreach initiative to provide information to taxpayers on the 2007 Middle Class STAR rebate program. To receive a STAR rebate this year, property owners with a basic STAR exemption on their 2007-2008 school tax bills must complete and submit an application, which is available on the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance website, http://www.nystax.gov/ by November 30. Senior Citizens who are property owners and receive an enhanced STAR exemption on their 2007-2008 tax bill will receive a rebate check automatically. For seniors with enhanced STAR, no application is required.
To ensure that eligible property owners are aware of the rebate program and have the opportunity to apply for their rebate before the November 30 deadline, the Massapequa Public School District is taking part in this public outreach initiative and has implemented a number of strategies to do so, including: palm cards, or similar mailings to be included in school tax bill mailings; banner ads on the District website and articles in the District newsletter, and posters on display in common meeting areas. Anyone who wishes to obtain information on the STAR rebate program and/or the public outreach initiative can view the "Frequently Asked Questions" section of the Department of Taxation and Finance website at http:// www.nystax.gov.
