Let's really take cars away from drunk drivers
Editorial

Nothing, it seems, stops those who are intent on drinking and driving. Over the past several weeks, there have been numerous incidents of drunk driving accidents in our areas, and the results have been disastrous.

Many years ago, this kind of behavior was shrugged off, despite the fact that we saw so many dying on our roads. Enter the efforts of people and organizations such as MADD who refused to allow drunk drivers to get away with murder and mayhem, and the laws began to catch up with common sense.

Today, drunk drivers face serious fines and jail time and rightfully so. But still too many ignore all of the laws, and the pleas, and the educational efforts made to keep our roads safe.

It's time to get tougher. Cars in the hands of drunk drivers are weapons being used during the commission of a crime. We should be impounding the vehicles of those arrested to send an even louder message that we will not tolerate those who would drink, drive and threaten the lives of others.
