Senator Fuschillo invites Senior citizens to Golden Gathering October 18

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) invites local senior citizens to attend his annual Golden Gathering, which will take place Thursday, October 18 at the Freeport Recreation Center, 130 East Merrick Rd., Freeport. This free event will last from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The 2007 Golden Gathering will have over 80 exhibitors on hand to answer any questions that senior citizens may have on a variety of issues, such as health and nutrition, consumer protection, public safety and insurance. As in previous years, visitors will also be able to receive free health services, such as flu shots (subject to availability), blood pressure screenings, chiropractic screenings and hearing screenings. New this year are free pneumonia vaccinations and glaucoma screenings.

The Town of Hempstead Town clerk's office will also be offering on site passport services to all in attendance. Seniors who want to obtain or renew a passport should call senator Fuschillo's office for more information about requirements.

The event also includes musical entertainment and refreshments will be served.

In cooperation with MTA Long Island Bus and the Towns of Hempstead, Oyster Bay and Babylon, free transportation will be available from 10 locations for seniors.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for senior citizens to gain information from a wide variety of exhibitors and take advantage of free health services all under one roof," Senator Fuschillo said. "I hope that all seniors will take advantage of this unique event by visiting the Freeport Recreation Center on October 18."

Residents who need directions to the Freeport Recreation Center, information regarding transportation or have any other questions should call Senator Fuschillo's office at 546-4100.
