Deborah DiSalvo-Brady, Plainedge High School Guidance Counselor, gardener, traveler
by Tiffany Elliott

Hauppauge resident Deborah DiSalvo-Brady loved her job as a Plainedge High School guidance counselor in which she aided in students' current and future growth. She died on September 25, 2007 after a long term battle with lung cancer. The non-smoker was 57 years old.

"She was extremely dedicated to her job and always thought of others before herself," said guidance counselor Holly Stonelli who worked with her for about seven years. "She truly cared."

Mrs. DiSalvo-Brady worked for the Plainedge School District in North Massapequa for 20 years from 1985 to 2005 and took special pride in helping kids take their next step towards college or entering the workforce. Before that she worked at William Floyd High School in New York State.

A $10,000 scholarship fund in her name has been set up to award one Long Island student a year whose essay is considered the best by a panel of judges. The topic will be "How I would make this a better world," according to her husband, Steve.

"Her smile and innocence was so beautiful. Every time she greeted you, she had that wonderful smile," said her husband. "You can't imagine how beautiful it was to come home every day and be greeted by Debbie's smile. I was incredibly blessed to have her love."

In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling, gardening and walking her dog Jake, a rescue dog from Little Shelter.

In addition to her husband of 23 years, Mrs. DiSalvo-Brady leaves behind her sister, Carol DiSalvo; her sister-in-law, Colleen Dietz; her brother-in-law, Mark Brady and numerous cousins and friends.

Mrs. DiSalvo-Brady reposed at Moloney's Hauppauge Funeral Home on September 27 and 28, 2007. A Religious Service was held September 28, 2007; a Funeral Mass was held September 29 at Holy Cross R.C. Church in Nesconset. A Committal Service was held at the Mother Teresa Tribute Center in Lake Ronkonkoma. A private cremation was held at Nassau-Suffolk Crematory in Lake Ronkonkoma.
