Charles Lomler, longtime art teacher and Deacon at St. David's Church

Charles Lomler
Longtime Massapequa resident and a deacon for St. David's, Charles Lomler died September 23, 2007 after a long-term illness. He was 85 years old.

Born and raised in Manhattan, he settled in Massapequa with his wife, Doris and lived there for 42 years. During World War II, he proudly served in the Engineers Corps in the European theater of war.

Mr. Lomler, a graduate of Cooper Union, NYU and Hofstra, was a Bellmore-Merrick High School art teacher for 30 years. During many of those years, he was the supervisor of the art department that oversaw seven different schools.

"He just loved teaching because he loved to watch young people develop their skills," said his wife of 42 years, Doris.

In addition to spending time with his family, he loved to go fishing on the ocean, grow juicy tomatoes and raise beautiful dahlias.

Mr. Lomler leaves behind his wife, Doris of Massapequa; his sons: Richard and his wife Michelle and William and his fiancee Colleen; his grandchildren: Nicholas and Riley, His sister, Anne Chesonis; and his niece Cathy Davis.

He reposed at the Massapequa Funeral Home, Massapequa Park, on September 25, 2007. A Religious Service was held September 26, 2007 at St. David's Lutheran Church, Massapequa Park, followed by interment in Pinelawn Memorial Park, Pinelawn.
