LI Blood Services needs you! Help save a life, give blood
Editorial

In this unseasonably warm weather; in this beautiful Long Island autumn, people are enjoying a host of surprises from Mother Nature's bag of tricks- walking along a cool, breezy beach, taking a trip Upstate New York to appreciate the blaze of colors on a fall landscape, or heading to the East End to savor a Long Island vineyard.

But unseasonably high temperatures throughout September and October has taken its toll on blood donations, putting inventory levels almost 15 percent below those projected, according to Long Island Blood Services. This reduced blood supply puts everyone at risk, and limits the response the blood banks can make when called upon in emergencies.

Only you can make a difference. Giving blood is one of the most selfless things one human being can do for another, yet only five percent of the population gives blood, despite the fact that it is relatively simple and easy. So, make the commitment and set aside an hour or so to give blood and save a life. You can do it as a family or with your organization. But do it. Take a few moments and call 1-800-933- BLOOD or go to www.nybloodcenter.org to find a location near you.
