Spitzer plan on drivers licenses needs to protect against voter fraud Dear Editor; As the son of an Irish immigrant who legally came to America to escape British oppression in 1916, I would like to voice my concern regarding the Emerald Isle Immigration Center's executive director, Siobhan Dennehy's apparent support for Gov. Spitzer's plan to give illegal immigrants New York State Driver's Licenses. Although I agree with Mr. Dennehy that it may be safer to give people who are already in this country a form of ID that shows "who they are and where they are," this can be accomplished if Gov. Spitzer would support a unique driver's license for "undocumented" workers as opposed to driver's licenses undistinguishable from those issued to legal New York State citizens. In addition, since driver's license numbers are a form of identification to register to vote, to issue illegal immigrants Driver's Licenses identical to those issued to legal citizens, has the potential for voter fraud in next year's New York State and presidential elections that could make other states' election fraud problems insignificant by comparison. If Gov. Spitzer is truly interested in improving road safety and preventing state driver's licenses from falling into the wrong hands, as opposed to pandering to New York City's "tax and spend" leftwing liberals, he would not only support uniquely identifying driver's licenses issued to "undocumented" workers, as junior licenses are for teenagers, but would agree to requiring Social Security numbers to register and vote as well.
