Dan Kornfeld receives Friend of Education Award
The 2007 honoree continues his family's tradition of public school advocacy started by his mother Norma Kornfeld, former Senior Citizens Director and District Coordinator. Kornfeld is involved with the Farmingdale Community Summit (serving as an Execu- tive Board member), an organization whose efforts include supporting families in need, promoting literacy and bringing together the communities that make up our district. Kornfeld has served on the Howitt Middle School Traffic Safety Committee to ensure the safe arrival and departure of our students. He is a manager and on the Board of Directors for the Farmingdale Baseball League and is active in the Police Athletic League serving as their vice president and Basketball Commissioner. Farmingdale School District Board of Education President Shari Bardash-Eivers stated in presenting the award, "Dan serves as a resource to our many PTA organizations and is continually the "go-to" man for a variety of activities and events". He is a lifelong Farmingdale resident, Farmingdale High School and Hofstra University graduate. Farmingdale Public Schools Superintendent John Lorentz commenting on Kornfeld said, "He was chosen as this year's honoree because of his belief in the value of public education and, in particular, his immense support of the children of the Farmingdale schools". " As a product of the Farmingdale School system, I am truly honored to receive this award. To be acknowledged by the current school board and school administration is very special to me", Kornfeld stated upon receiving the award. "Having the ability to be part of committees with former teachers and to work along side administrators that worked so close with my mother is extremely gratifying," he added.
