Girl Scouts help out unwed mothers

Daniella Tompkins and Katie McKiernan are working towards their Girls Scout Silver Award by throwing a baby shower for young mothers who will raise their babies alone. They began the collection in September with the Biltmore Beach Club and will now be collecting through bins at both the Bar Harbor and Central Avenue Libraries. Donations of baby clothes, formula and gift cards can be placed in the bins until the end of November.

The girls are volunteering at Life Center and Momma's House, non-profit organizations that provide a home for young mothers aged 15 to 21 and their babies. With guidance and direction, the young mothers can learn to support themselves and their children independently.
