Arlene Gutin: 42-year Cerebral Palsy volunteer
by Tiffany Elliott

Longtime North Massapequa resident and dedicated volunteer Arlene Gutin died September 27, 2007. She was 72 and volunteered for more than 40 years with the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County, Plainedge Chapter. She was described as a woman who was full of life and who laughed easily.

Born in Coney Island, Brooklyn she moved to North Queens Avenue in North Massapequa in 1965 and dedicated her life to taking care of her family and home.

"My wife wasn't one to sit around. She loved to participate and really dedicated herself to causes," said her husband of 49 years, Stanley.

For 42 years, she served United Cerebral in many roles, from president and council member to being named Woman of the Year. She was also a member of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, in which she was also active.

"No job was too large or too small for Arlene," said Iris Alessi, president of the Council of Auxiliaries for United Cerebral Palsy. "She worked hard to make sure that each job turned out as perfect as possible. Everyone loved to be around her."

In addition to her husband Stanley, Mrs.

Gutin is survived by her children: Barbara Gutin-Angus and Edward; her

grandchildren: Alexander and Liana; her brother, Gerald; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, inlaws and friends.

A private ceremony was followed by interment in New Montefiore Cemetery in Farmingdale.
