MEET THE VOTERS

John Pagano, Massapequa Park, retired NYC Police Officer "The local elections are already over, Venditto always wins. Town taxes are out of sight and keep getting higher every year. If this keeps up, we will have to sell our house and move away."
Jennifer Davey, Massapequa Park, school teacher "I am concerned about illegal immigration. I'm appalled that people are questioning our department of homeland security and spending taxpayers' money on seeing whether or not it has value. That's ridiculous...we need to be safe."
Ken Heiser, Massapequa resident Cablevision employee "First of all, we need to start worrying about our people here. I don't think that illegal immigrants should take jobs away from American citizens or be entitled to health care without contributing like the rest of us. We need tighter border control. If someone is here illegally and they commit a crime, they should be deported."
Cleo Dascal, 48- year Massapequa Park resident "I am happy with Mr. Venditto and Mr. Schmitt (etc.), they always help whenever I have a problem, but I do wish taxes would go down. I am not so concerned nationally because whoever (is elected) president will have problems."
Donald Decker, Massapequa resident, retired "We need new people in office, I can't afford the taxes and I don't want to move to North Carolina. These officials are elected to figure out why taxes are so high and do something about it and they don't. They are just busy polishing apples or something."
Phil Gandios, Amityville resident, co-owner of a furniture business "We seem to have a lot of parks in the area. It would be nice if there was something that contributed to the tax base by enhancing the business district rather than adding more parks. I am also concerned about housing prices plummeting."
William Borysiuck, Amity resident, retired stockbroker "I'm concerned with the war but locally, I think, senior citizens need to have more breaks with taxes. I already get the Star and veterans exemptions (etc) and it still costs too much to live here. As for who I'm voting for locally I haven't been following who's running. I'll do that a couple days before I vote."
Ron Thompson, Amityville resident, artist "This war has to end and we need to get our troops out of Iraq. We need a new president. Locally, am confused about who to vote for because the candidates don't talk about the issues and what they'd do, they just criticize each other."
Evelyn Rothenburger, Amityville resident, art teacher "I am mainly concerned about our business area because it isn't doing well and rent is too high. That and the huge amount of traffic in the Village, something needs to be done. I am not so concerned nationally."
Alan Glatman, Amityville, owner of Christoffer's Office Products "Bush must go. We need to slowly phase out of the war and get our troops out because we shouldn't have been there in the first place. Locally, as you can see we are moving our business after 80 years because there's no retail left in the village. Something has to be done about revitalizing the business district as well as taxes."
