Chuck Hechinger, Lithographer and 46-year Massapequa Park resident
by Tiffany Elliott

Before he became a loving husband and father, Charles "Chuck" Hechinger sold the only boat he ever owned to buy the love of his life an engagement ring. That was more than 49 years ago. On Oct. 9, 2007, Mr. Hechinger died in his 86th year, leaving behid his wife Madeline.

Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Hechinger lived in Valley Stream before relocating to Massapequa Park in 1961 with his wife Madeline (nee Kaiser).

From 1942 to 1946 he served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was a lifetime member of the VFW. Mr. Hechinger spent his life working in the printing business for Amalgamated Lithographers of America Local 1.

His wife said that long before they moved to the area, he often visited his grandparents who had a summer home in Massapequa that used to sit behind St. Rose of Lima Church on Merrick Road. That was long before the area was built up, but he loved the community and decided to raise his family here.

In his spare time, he loved to fish, garden and listen to classical music.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Hechinger leaves behind his children: Robert and his wife Sigrid, Karen, Diane and her husband Bo and Janice; his sister, Muriel Urban; his grandchildren: Hunter, Kristinna and Jakey.

He reposed at the Massapequa Funeral Home, South Chapel, Massapequa Park on October 10 and 11, 2007. A funeral Mass was said Oct. 12, 2007 at St. Rose of Lima Church, Massapequa, followed by private cremation.
